AntiFragile Magazine
Artist Statement:
In quarantine in the summer of 2020, my friend Miumi and I noticed a strong desire for young artists to feel connected especially given the circumstances of isolation, as well as the need to speak out about BLM and social justice issues going on at the time. There was a lack of creative communities and opportunities led by youth, for youth, and hardly any spaces dedicated to those who identify as LGBT+, women, and non-binary people of color. Ages only 18 and 15 at the time, this is what led us to launch Antifragile Zine, a media platform, independent publication, and artists collective specifically dedicated to marginalized voices and creatives of color like ourselves. Launching two and a half years ago, we have now published three print issues filled with art, poetry, writing, and photography from young artists all over the world, with a team of over 40 young women of color/non-binary POC, and total audience of over 15,000+ across all platforms! Being able to foster a safe space for others like me who have felt unseen is truly a dream come true. The reach that Antifragile has had has proven to us that the need for art and community is paramount, and that there is so much power in youth supporting youth.

Bio:
Antifragile Zine is an artist collective, media platform, and independent magazine created by and for youth artists. We exist online, in-print, and in-person, but above all, we are a COMMUNITY. We provide the opportunity for marginalized youth artists, especially those who have felt unseen in mainstream media, or those who identify as LGBT+ and women and non-binary people of color, a safe space to connect, grow, and develop their creative aspirations. We believe that by bringing together youth, art, and community, we can catalyze radical change.
