Robin Ward: Above the Sea | Echoes from a Future Past | Submerged
Above the Sea
From the edge and above, I am repeatedly drawn to photograph dramatic coastline and the rhythmic movement of the surf surge and retreat. At the onset of El Niño in 2015, I began capturing aerial abstractions of California’s central coast. The turbulent weather and massive swell were impressive yet alarmingly powerful. This ongoing series now spans the pacific coast from Oregon to Nayarit, Mexico. The dual nature of being – tumultuous and calm, destructive and restorative – is reflected in this work.
Robin Ward is a photographer, designer and multimedia artist based in Laguna Beach, CA. Her experimental practice fuses photography, digital compositing, videography and animation. She works concurrently in multiple ongoing series, employing a variety of techniques and tools from a macro lens to a drone. With nature as her muse, she explores themes of perception and transformation.
Ward’s art has received recognition from International Color Awards, International Photography Awards and Color Magazine, among others. She has exhibited in numerous galleries and museums including Art Intersection, Center for Photographic Art, Monterey Museum of Art and Triton Museum of Art.
Echoes from a Future Past
In Echoes from a Future Past, I create airy, rhythmic mindscapes to playfully reflect upon the essence of time and space. I blend my original photographs of nature, architecture and artifacts to portray intermingling realities and allude to infinite possibilities.
Submerged
Submerged is a collection of effervescent botanical abstractions that accentuate cycles of being. I anchor flowers and leaves in water, some thriving as expressions of unabashed love, joy and compassion; other botanicals reveal various states of decay, suggesting an ending as a beginning. Both evoke different aspects of a whole.
